How to Resend a Fax

Compare All PlansStart Faxing Now

Every communication method has its issues, and there are times when users might need to resend a fax. Whether it’s resending your fax to the same recipient or resending a previous fax to a new contact, digital fax solutions make this process easy.

In this article we’ll explore why you might need to resend faxes and how to resend your digital fax across multiple different internet faxing platforms, including web, desktop and mobile.

Read on for our complete guide to resending a fax.

Why You May Need to Resend a Fax

Even the most reliable fax service still results in missed faxes. Being able to retrieve and resend sent faxes is a key benefit of a good quality internet fax solution. Here are some of the circumstances that might cause you to resend a fax:

  • If the initial fax failed due to a busy signal, no answer or other transmission error
  • If the recipient never received the fax due to technical issues on their end
  • If the sender forgot to include important documents or details
  • If the sender needs to send the same fax to multiple recipients
  • If the fax was received but wasn’t clear or readable for some reason

These reasons and more might cause you to resend a fax. Thankfully, digital fax solutions track the status of sent faxes and make it easier for you to know when you should resend a document.

How To Resend a Fax From Different Devices

The main steps to resend faxes are common across multiple platforms. But, for the sake of clarity, we’re going to break down the method for different platforms, so you know how to resend a fax on any device.

Resending a Fax on a Computer

To resend a fax using your desktop computer, simply download the eFax messenger desktop app for Windows or iOS. Then:

  1. Open eFax messenger and log in to your eFax digital fax account
  2. Navigate to your Message Center
  3. Find the fax you want to resend and select it
  4. Click “Resend”

You can edit the cover sheet, attach new documents or edit the recipient in this window to resend your fax.

Resending a Fax on Phone

To resend a fax using your desktop computer, simply download the eFax app for Android or iOS. Then:

  1. Open the eFax app
  2. Navigate to your Message Center and go to your sent faxes
  3. Find the fax you want to resend and select it
  4. Tap “Resend”

You can edit the cover sheet, attach new documents or edit the recipient in this window to resend your fax via your smartphone.

Resending a Fax via Web Portal

It’s easy to resend a fax from your eFax account using any internet-connected device. Simply open your Internet browser and navigate to eFax.com. Then:

  1. Log in to your eFax account
  2. Navigate to your Message Center and go to your sent faxes
  3. Find the fax you want to resend and select it
  4. Click or tap “Resend”

You can edit the cover sheet, attach new documents or edit the recipient in this window to resend your fax directly from the web portal.

Can You Edit a Fax Before Resending?

Yes. The “resend” option lets you edit a number of fields before you resend your fax. Edit options include:

  • The recipient name
  • Recipient fax number
  • Cover page

You can also attach additional documents to your fax or edit the existing documents, including cropping, markups and annotations. If you need more editing options, you can also forward the fax to a new recipient.

Alternative Solutions To Resending a Fax

Resending your fax isn’t always the right solution for your needs. Other ways to work with sent faxes include:

Forward the Fax To a New Recipient

You might want to forward a fax when you have a document that needs to go to multiple people or to verify that you’ve sent a fax to a third party.

To forward a fax, navigate to your sent faxes, highlight the one you want to forward and select “forward.” This will open a new send window with the existing fax attached. You can create a new cover page, set a new recipient and send your fax to a new recipient. A benefit of this method is that you won’t accidentally resend it to the same person needlessly. This is a less effective solution for faxes that failed due to a technical error or temporary disruption.

Recreate the Fax From Scratch

You might also want to create an entirely new fax. A time you might want to do this is when you want to resend a faxed document but separate the fax trail completely for record-keeping or privacy reasons. You might also just be unsure if the fax was correct and so want to resend it anew as a fresh start.

To do this, just open eFax Messager, your eFax app or your web portal and compose a new fax. You can attach previously sent documents to your new fax using your document library in your eFax portal or attach documents from other storage solutions like Google Drive, Dropbox or your device. This is a more time-consuming and cumbersome option than just resending or forwarding a fax, though.

Use Digital Fax Solutions for More Flexibility

These solutions work best on internet faxing solutions or email-to-fax platforms. Digital fax services allow you to resend and reuse faxes more easily because the documents are stored in your account. For example, you might want to forward a fax to email for your own record-keeping or redistribute an incoming fax to your team. Digital fax solutions make all this more possible.

You can still send faxes to analogue fax machines using the email to a fax machine within eFax, giving you the versatility and reliability of digital solutions regardless of the recipient.

eFax: An Efficient and Cost-Effective Way To Send & Resend Faxes

The eFax digital fax solution is the most efficient, reliable and cost-effective method to send and resend faxes. It offers several key features, including:

Fax from Anywhere, Anytime

eFax allows users to fax from any internet-connected device anytime using their eFax account. This makes it easy to access faxes sent and resend them when needed, even if you’re not currently using the device you sent the fax from originally.

Cloud Storage

Every sent or received fax document is stored for free in your cloud-based eFax document storage library. eFax lets you tag and label your faxes so you can retrieve them anytime with a quick search, making it easy to resend a fax whether you sent it yesterday or a year ago.

Electronic Signature

Did you forget to sign one page before you sent your fax? eFax lets you sign your faxes electronically, so you can edit your sent fax and resend it with the correct signatures with ease.

Office Integration

eFax integrates seamlessly with common office software like Google Docs, Gmail, Microsoft Outlook and more. This means you can resend faxes without interrupting your workflow, helping you save time and money.

eFax is the most cost-effective way to receive, send, or resend faxes, with no landline, bulk equipment, fax paper or fax toner to pay for.

FAQ’s Around Resending Faxes

How many times can I resend a fax?

There is no limit to how often a user can resend a fax. As long as you have faxes left in your subscription plan, you can resend a fax as often as you need.

Can I resend a fax to a different number?

Yes, you can edit the recipient number in the new fax window that opens when you select “resend” on a fax. You can also forward a fax to a new number.

Can I modify the content of a fax before resending it?

Yes, eFax lets users edit key fields and even edit the document you’re faxing before you resend it.

Will resending a fax create duplicates on the recipient’s end?

Sometimes, this depends on whether the fax was received successfully before you resent it. You will see the status of your sent faxes in your eFax account, and it’s unlikely you’ll need to resend a fax that reached its target. If you do need to resend a fax with slightly more information or details, you can edit the cover page or subject before you send it.

How long should I wait before resending a fax?

Many of us wonder how long a fax takes to get to its destination, especially if the fax we’re sending is important. Digital fax solutions usually respond within a few seconds, so you’ll know if your fax was received. If your fax doesn’t reach its target within a few minutes, check the recipient’s fax number and try again.

If you want to resend a fax to a new number, you don’t need to wait at all.

Send and receive faxes in minutes.
